Islam Tanpa Diskriminasi: Tafsir Revolusioner Al-Qur’an Tentang Keadilan Sosial dalam Tafsir Al-Wasīṭ Karya Sayyid Aṭ-Ṭanṭāwī

Abstract

This study examines the theme of social justice in the Qur'an using a thematic exegesis (mawḍūʿī) approach by integrating the hermeneutical theories of Hassan Hanafi and Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd. The primary aim of this research is to understand how the Qur'anic verses related to social justice can provide practical solutions to address issues of social discrimination in modern society. The main data analyzed includes Q.S. al-Ḥujurāt [49]:13, Q.S. an-Nisā’ [4]:58 and 135, Q.S. an-Naḥl [16]:90, and Q.S. al-Mā’idah [5]:8, referring to Tafsir al-Wasīṭ by Sayyid Aṭ-Ṭanṭāwī. The methods used include linguistic analysis of key terms such as ‘adl (justice), amanah (trust), and taqwa (piety), as well as the correlation between verses to build a comprehensive thematic understanding. Additionally, the historical context of these verses is examined through asbāb an-nuzūl, and their relevance is linked to contemporary issues such as religious, gender, and economic discrimination in Indonesia. The findings of the research show that the principles of social justice in the Qur'an, when actualized, provide a strong foundation for social transformation in society and offer guidance for more just and inclusive policies. This research significantly contributes to the development of contemporary exegesis studies and enriches the understanding of addressing social issues with Qur'anic value-based approaches.
