Penafsiran Imam al-Qurṭubī terhadap Ayat-Ayat Pertanian, Pangan, dan Air Bersih serta Relevansinya terhadap Krisis Ekologis Modern

Abstract

This study aims to examine al-Qurṭubī’s interpretation of the Qur’anic verses related to agriculture, food, and water in the context of modern ecological crises. The research adopts a qualitative library based approach using thematic interpretation (tafsīr mauḍū‘ī). Primary data are drawn from al- al-Qurṭubī’’s seminal work, al Jami‘ li Ahkam al-Qur’an, while secondary sources include modern studies on environmental theology and sustainability. The findings reveal that al-Qurṭubī’ emphasizes the principles of balance, gratitude, and moral responsibility in managing natural resources. He interprets agricultural and water related verses as divine mandates to maintain environmental harmony and avoid corruption (fasād) on earth. In the context of modern challenges such as industrial agriculture, food scarcity, and clean water shortage these interpretations provide ethical guidance rooted in Islamic spirituality. The study concludes that integrating Qur’anic values, as presented by al-Qurṭubī’, can inspire sustainable agricultural and environmental policies. This research suggests the importance of recontextualizing classical tafsir to address contemporary global issues and promote ecological justice.
