Menjaga Lingkungan sebagai Ibadah: Analisis Keterkaitan Iman dan Ekologi dalam Tafsir Al-Biqā‘ī (Naẓm al-Durar)

Abstract

Increasing environmental damage in the contemporary era requires a strong ethical and theological foundation in conservation efforts. From an Islamic perspective, protecting the environment is not only understood as a social responsibility, but also as a form of worship related to faith. This study aims to analyze the relationship between faith and ecology in Al-Biqā‘ī's interpretation and to emphasize the concept of protecting the environment as part of worship practices. The method used is the Mauḍū’ī (thematic) interpretation method, by compiling verses from the Qur'an related to the environment, human stewardship, and the prohibition of destruction on earth, then analyzing them based on Al- Biqā‘ī's interpretation. The results of the study on QS. Al-Baqarah: 30, QS. Al-'Araf: 56, QS. Rad: 11, QS. al-Mulk: 15 in Al-Biqā‘ī's interpretation (Nadzm Al-Durar) show that protecting the environment is not only an ethical obligation but also part of worship and the mandate of human stewardship. Conversely, environmental destruction is understood as a form of denial of the divine mandate. Al-Biqā‘ī's interpretation has strong relevance in responding to contemporary ecological challenges and provides a theological basis that protecting the environment is an important part of worship in Islam.
