About the Journal

SUNNATUNA: Journal of Hadith Studies is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to the advancement of scholarly research in the field of Hadith studies. The journal serves as a platform for critical, analytical, and interdisciplinary studies of Hadith, encouraging both classical and contemporary approaches to the understanding of the Prophetic tradition.

The journal particularly welcomes original research articles that explore Hadith from diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives, including but not limited to law (fiqh and uṣūl al-fiqh), philosophy, history, art and aesthetics, theology (ʿaqīdah and kalām), sociology, anthropology, political science, and other relevant disciplines. Special attention is given to studies in Hadith sciences (ʿulūm al-ḥadīth), Living Hadith, comparative and regional Hadith studies across different geographical contexts—such as the Middle East, the Western world, the Indonesian Archipelago, and other regions—as well as research on the methodology of Hadith studies and syarḥ al-ḥadīth (Hadith interpretation and commentary).

By integrating textual analysis with socio-historical and contemporary perspectives, SUNNATUNA aims to contribute to the development of Hadith studies that are academically rigorous, contextually relevant, and responsive to modern scholarly discourse.

The journal is published biannually, March and September, by the Department of Magister Hadith Studies, Faculty of Ushuluddin, IAI Persis Garut, Indonesia.
