GREEN ZAKAT: INSTRUMEN FILANTROPI ISLAM UNTUK KEBERLANJUTAN LINGKUNGAN DAN KESEJAHTERAAN SOSIAL

Abstract
Green zakat is an innovation in zakat management that expands the role of zakat from merely a social redistribution tool to an instrument of economic empowerment and environmental preservation. This concept was born from the need to answer the challenges of the times, especially the environmental crisis, structural poverty, and social inequality. By integrating the principles of zakat in Islam and the values of sustainability, green zakat is directed to fund environmentally friendly productive programs, such as organic farming, water conservation, renewable energy, and reforestation. This study aims to examine in depth the potential and
mechanisms of green zakat as a concrete strategy in achieving the economic welfare of the people while maintaining the sustainability of the ecosystem. The method used in this study is a literature study with a qualitative-descriptive approach. The analysis was carried out on scientific documents, thematic books such as Productive Zakat, Zakat and Empowerment of the People's Economy, to institutional reports such as BAZNAS: A Journey of Zakat Revival. Secondary data was also studied from journals that discuss the integration of zakat and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including technology-based zakat management strategies and cross-sector collaboration. The results of the study show that the green zakat approach is in line with the principles of maqashid sharia, namely protection of property, life, and the environment as a form of public welfare. The implementation of green zakat requires
institutional transformation, strengthening the capacity of amil human resources, and regulatory support from the state. In the context of national development, green zakat can be a catalyst for achieving SDGs, especially in the areas of poverty alleviation, food security, clean energy, and inclusive economic development. Therefore, green zakat becomes a new urgency
in the architecture of contemporary Islamic philanthropy.
