Abstract
Consumptive behavior is wasteful behavior in the excessive use of goods or services. This is influenced by various factors, both internal and external. The purpose of this study is to reduce consumptive behavior among students through the application of self-management techniques. Excessive consumerist behavior can have negative impacts on students' financial conditions and habits. Therefore, appropriate interventions are needed to help students manage their consumerist behavior habits. This study employs the Action Research Guidance and Counseling (ARGC) method using the Kemmis & McTaggart model, which consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The population in this study was all 10th grade students at MAN 1 Garut, while the sample consisted of one class with a high level of consumer behavior. The data collection techniques used were questionnaires, observation, and documentation, while the data analysis technique used descriptive percentage analysis. The results of the study showed that the students' consumptive behavior scores before the intervention were 1,661, with an average of 79. After the intervention, there was a decrease in the average between cycle I and cycle II. In cycle I, the average consumer behavior of students was 62, while in cycle II, the average decreased to 59, with a difference of 3. Similarly, the total score in cycle I was 1309, while in cycle II, it decreased to 1243, with a difference of 66. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there was a significant decrease in students' consumer behavior between cycle I and cycle II. Thus, the application of self-management techniques through group counseling proved effective in reducing students' consumer behavior. This study provides new insights into the effectiveness of self-management techniques in addressing consumer behavior among adolescents.
