Abstract

Stress has become a real problem in human daily life. Stress as a condition is caused due to the mismatch between the desired situation and the biological, psychological or social state of the individual. Especially students who are in the category of the transition period from junior high school to high school, where at that time a person is still in the process of finding an effective learning style to use so that the stress relief in the academic field exists. However, when a student has good self-efficacy, of course, he will be able to complete the existing academic demands so that academic stress can be reduced. To determine the relationship between self-efficacy and academic stress of students in grade 1 of Garut. This study is a correlational quantitative research, a research sample of 50 students in class X of SMAN 1 Garut with the sampling technique used is probability sampling. The results showed that there was a significant negative relationship between the self-efficacy variable and academic stress with R = -0.452 and a significance of 0.000 < 0.05 which indicates that the first hypothesis is accepted. Based on these results, it can be stated that there is a negative relationship between the self-efficacy variables.  The higher the self-efficacy that students have, the lower the academic stress of students. Conversely, the lower the self-efficacy, the higher the academic stress experienced. This research provides the basis for the development of guidance and counseling programs that focus on improving self-efficacy.
