Metode Kritik Hadis Untuk Penelitian Sejarah: Critical Review atas Kitab Manāhij al-Muḥaddiṡīn Karya Ibrāhīm al-Syahrazūrī al-Baġdādī

Abstract

The debate surrounding the reliability of hadith criticism as a scientific method, applicable not only to hadith narrations but also to historical accounts in general, continues to this day, generating significant literature from both sanguine and skeptical camps. Among the works from the sanguine camp is the book Manāhij al-Muḥaddiṡīn fī Naqd al-Riwāyāt al-Tārīkhiyyah li al-Qurūn al-Hijriyyah al-Ṡalāṡah al-Ūlā by Ibrāhīm al-Syahrazūrī al-Baġdādī, which was originally a doctoral dissertation at the University of Baghdad. Based on a cursory reading of the entire book and a close reading of specific key sections, this critical review finds that in terms of content and substance, the work is a valuable contribution to the discourse. However, there are technical and principal academic errors in its writing and structure that detract from the quality of this work, thus making an alternative methodological proposal for similar works essential.
